At the MWC2014, Samsung revealed about the much awaited, Samsung Galaxy S5. It has a new black cover, a waterproof design and many upgraded software and hardware features. At MWC2014, Samsung talked about all the features of the new model except the CPU that would run the mobile.
What is the secret about the CPU?
Qualcomm announced that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would run in two different processors: the 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 and the 2.1 GHz oct-core Exynos. The Snapdragon 801 is an upgraded version of Snapdragon 800, with a fast clock speed which supports a maximum GPU frequency.
Samsung informed that like the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S5 would also be released in 2.1 GHz oct-core Exynos model. The Exynos model would be available throughout the globe whereas the Snapdragon 801 variant would be available only in selected markets like the North America and a few regions of Europe.
The other features of the Samsung Galaxy S5 are 5.1 inch HD display with 432 ppi, 2 GB RAM, 32GB storage (also available in 16 GB), 2800mAh battery, 16 MP back camera and 2.1 MP front camera. It has improved adaptive display that changes the mode, as per the lighting situation. It does not change the brightness; it would change the way the colors look. It weighs 145 grams and is available in four colors: white, black, gold and blue. It has 802.11 ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, USB 3.0, IR port, NFC and is powered by Android 4.4 Kitkat. The waterproof cover would attract more customers. Sony is providing this feature for long, but waterproof feature of S5 would be a new hit. It looks like the people at Samsung are listening to the feedback and critics of the customers. The soft touch back feels better in hand than the slimy and glossy plastic.
What’s the advantage of using Snapdragon 801 instead of Snapdragon 800? There is a considerable jump in the processing speed. The digital image processing is very faster and contributes to the speed of clicking a picture. It would take only 0.3 seconds to auto focus and take a picture.
The power efficiency is increased considerably. The device would charge 75% faster with the help of Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0. This chip also is compatible with 64- bit software. It supports higher speed SD memory card and LTE advanced networks.
Though Samsung did not announce any new processor details, there are reports that the manufacturers might be using a new chip named, the Exynos Infinity.
